All at once, the silent air erupted into a cacophony of noise; birds shuttering to wing and the echo of a gunshot filling the space between the white-clad trees where the men stood. The older mans hands still shook, partially from cold, but his fingers still caressed the cold iron sight. Beside him, a boy grasped at his pant leg, clutching his ears and giggling almost brutishly.
